When your character is downed, and they need to make a roll on an empty Endurance or Morale pool, then your character has unfortunately come to the end of their adventuring career.
Be it that your character has met an untimely demise or decided that they are just not cut out for this kind of life.
When this situation occurs, you may select to perform one of the following options.
Exit The Scene
Your character is unable to continue on for now, exiting the scene to return at the start of the next Act.
At the start of the next Act (or after several scenes if it would mean that character is missing for a prolonged period of time) your character returns affected by a Trauma. Permanently lose one Endurance and one Morale dice (it does not need to be the first dice in each pool, you may choose any of the available die slots to sacrifice).
On their return, your character may clear all marks and fully replenished their Endurance and Morale pools.
Blaze Of Glory
You muster the last ounces of strength to perform one final action. You automatically receive a critical success without need to make a dice roll.
Once your final action has been resolved, your character either dies or enters into retirement. Write down the details of your character's final moments and then work with your Game Moderator to create a new character.
Final Moments
Write down your character's final moments. Stories will one day be told about how this hero ended their adventuring career.
Leave It To Fate
Roll 3d8, covering the result so that neither you nor anyone else can see the outcome. As an example, hide the result beneath an empty cup.
- Your character is no longer Dropped.
- Instantly recover one Endurance and one Morale die.
- You gain +1d on your next action within the scene.
While In Fate's Hands, if you need to perform a second retirement option, instead disregard the outcome of the covered Fate roll and your character dies or enters into retirement.
At the end of the current altercation reveal your covered Fate roll.
- On a Critical, clear a mark from each attribute and live on to fight again.
- On a Clean or Mixed outcome, the fates were kind to you and your character lives on.
- On a Grimm outcome, your character is retired at the conclusion of the scene with no additional complications.
- On a Disastrous outcome, your character is instantly retired with no additional complications.
Note
It is important that you roll the hidden 3d8 roll at the time you select this option. This prevents the situation of forgetting to do so at the end of a scene, and adds a layer of tension to the gameplay.
