Scenario Introduction

Early Playtest

Oxen pulling a caravan

For this scenario you will be playing as an already formed party of adventurers whom are members of the Merchants Protection Guild. The guild offers their services to travelling merchants and caravans to ensure their travel between towns is safe and protected from bandits and savage wildlife.

Your current assignment is to escort Dorn and his wife Vardania, operators of Dorn's Wandering Repair Wagon, on their journey through various remote regions until they reach the next major city. The current leg of your journey has you scheduled to arrive at the remote village of Moonspear Bayou.

However, you are only contracted to the wagon whilst it is on route between destinations. Once Dorn is able to check into the village's tavern, your party will be free to do as they please until a time when Dorn is ready to depart for the next destination.

Dorn's Wandering Repair Wagon

Dorn and Vardania operate a travelling repair wagon offering their skills and services to the various remote towns and villages, of which may not have access to the latest tools and equipment. Their wagon is large enough that is contains space for the couple to sleep during their travels. It also has a small kitchen and workspace, as well as various different tools and gadgets for almost any kind of repair job. Their wagon is pulled along by a pair of wooly Musk Oxen, named Pumpkin and Patch, whom have been travelling with the wagon for several years.

Unfortunately, Dorn's wagon is not big enough for your party to sleep within. Although you may travel within the wagon from time to time, as it moves between towns, come nightfall your party is expected to set up camp and take a night's watch.

There are some benefits for escorting a travelling repair wagon, as during your contract, Dorn has agreed to offer his assistance to you, in your protection efforts, by providing their repair services free of charge.

Moonspear Bayou

Moonspear Bayou is a small remove village nestled alongside a bayou of which they share the same name. The village is surrounded by a sparse forrest that leads up into the mountains. The village is located on the shoreline of a deep lake, of crystal clear water that feeds into the Bayou.

This scenario will start with your party travelling down from the mountain paths towards the village of Moonspear Bayou.

What to expect?

This playtest will be used to evaluate and balance the core dice-rolling mechanics. We'll spend the first part of our session talking through what those mechanics are, as well as creating characters for us to play. There are a total of four archetypes to choose from, meaning that no two players will be sharing an archetype.

Depending on how we are going for time, we will aim to play through five scenes. The first scene will be an introduction/tutorial which will give you a chance to get a grasp on the mechanics.

After that, we'll run through a social scene, an exploration scene and a combat encounter scene before wrapping things up with a brief epilogue scene.

Some of the things we won't be covering include: shopping and camping.

Character death is a possibility for this scenario. However, if that occurs too early on, we may choose to bend the rules to allow you to keep playing on, or potentially come up with a new character on the spot.

Afterwards, I would like to get your feedback on how everything went (please feel free to be brutally honest, I swear I can take it), what made your feel frustrated (in a non-enjoyable way) or what things you absolutely vibed with.
